When – and how – was your company born?
The Victoria Workday office began as MediaCore, an educational technology company founded in June 2011. It aimed to help educators capture, manage and share educational content with students, faculty and staff through its cloud hosted media platform. MediaCore was acquired in 2015 by Workday, Inc., a provider of enterprise cloud applications for financial management, human capital management (HCM), payroll, student systems, and analytics.

Who are some of your clients? What projects are you working on right now, and what do they do?
The world’s leading companies trust Workday as their enterprise cloud suite, supporting breakthrough results in financial management and human capital management across a wide range of challenges. Among them are Amazon, Netflix, Target, and Hewlett Packard.

Three of the big projects at Workday Victoria right now are bringing libraries of third party content into the Workday platform so it can be used seamlessly alongside customers own content, improving the insights and search-ability of customer video content through an integration with IBM Watson Machine Learning, and expanding our existing interactive video platform into new areas within the Workday application suite.

What was a pivotal moment for your company?
“Going through an acquisition was an incredible experience – it completely changed MediaCore’s trajectory in terms of our business, technology, and our people,” says Christina Seargeant, Senior HR Business Partner for Workday Canada. “It’s been an amazing opportunity to see our team evolve over the last three years since joining Workday – we’ve seen a number of staff explore internal opportunities and support other areas of Workday, develop deep subject matter expertise, and hold senior level positions within the organization. We all hold bright futures at Workday, and considering the company’s growth and strategic goals, the opportunities ahead of us are endless.”

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned along the way?
“There has been no shortage of learnings since being acquired by Workday, however the most important piece that comes to mind is knowing how to embrace change. New and exciting opportunities can present themselves when you least expect it and having an open mind with an interest to explore uncharted territory can yield great things!” – Christina Seargeant, Senior HR Business Partner for Workday Canada.

What does the future 10 years look like for your company?
Workday has recently made two big announcements regarding its future direction:

Workday Ventures is the company’s strategic investment arm focused on identifying, investing, and partnering with early to growth stage companies developing emerging technologies – such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, blockchain, and augmented and virtual reality – that can be applied to the enterprise.

This $250 million fund comes after Workday announced it will open up its cloud platform. By entering the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) market, Workday intends to enable customers and our broader ecosystem to use our platform services to build custom extensions and applications that can significantly enhance what organizations are able to accomplish with Workday.
